Welcome
Dialogue and exchange of world-wide renowned experts on current issues in auditory-verbal rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children October 2008 in Berchtesgaden
Recent advances in technology such as the cochlea implant have dramatically improved possibilities in the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children. The Newborn Hearing Screening, which soon will become nation-wide standard for early diagnosis in Germany, enables a more immediate response to a hearing loss. However, in spite of these advances, experience over the past years has shown dramatic differences in the life courses of affected children. On the one hand, well supported and integrated children that easily cope and attend regular classes with all chances for an independent future in life. On the other hand are those, who struggle, pick up the language with difficulties and only receive adequate education with a lot of help and continuous support.
What are the key factors that determine these differences? After an early diagnosis of hearing loss, how can one best empower the child to tap its full potential? What help can be given to parents for making it easier for them to support their children in everyday life.
The 6th International Auditory-Verbal Congress is directed towards all professionals active in the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children, as well as towards parents and people with impaired hearing. We have invited internationally renowned experts and are looking forward to having fruitful discussions. Berchtesgaden, which is a beautifully situated holiday & health resort in the alps, offers a unique setting for a successful exchange of experience.
